Arrive in Delhi (stay at The Leela Palace, New Delhi)
Our most-loved luxury Rajasthan tour begins in Delhi. A member of our team will be waiting to greet you at the airport and accompany you to The Leela Palace. This luxurious palace hotel will leave you feeling like a modern-day maharaja; from ornate crystal chandeliers and decadent fresh flower displays to antique-style furniture, every room is like a showcase of tasteful indulgence.
If any, the rest of the day is at leisure to settle in and recuperate from your international journey. Depending on how early in the day you arrive, if you’d like to begin exploring this afternoon, you can let us know anytime. Your chauffeur is always on hand, and we’re only a quick call away on your complimentary mobile phone (or WhatsApp, if you prefer).
Day 2
In Delhi
A guided tour of both Old and New Delhi today will introduce you to the Jama Masjid, Qutab Minar, India Gate, Parliament House, Humayun’s Tomb and the Sikh temple. These sights are purely suggestive. You’re very welcome to tweak them with us in advance to best suit your interests, or even on the day itself by discussing with your guide at the time. We’re known for our flexible approach, allowing you complete control over the pace of your trip. After exploring the bustling capital, return to The Leela Palace in the evening. There are four excellent in-house restaurants to choose from (including Indian, French, Japanese, and multi-cuisine). Still, if you’d like to dine out, we recommend the award-winning Indian Accent or Bukhara.
Day 3
Delhi to Agra (stay at The Oberoi Amarvilas, Agra)
After breakfast, we’ll chauffeur you to Agra. At The Oberoi Amarvilas, you’ll catch your first glimpse of the magnificent Taj Mahal from the comfort of your Premier Room. After having had the chance to freshen up, you’ll be met by your guide to explore Agra Fort, followed by the Taj Mahal at sunset. As the setting sun hits the magnificent monument, the marble glows with an orange hue. For an extra special touch, ask to upgrade to a Premier Room with Balcony – looking out over the Taj Mahal from your private terrace is an impossibly romantic experience. You can even enjoy an exclusive dinner served on your balcony by a butler overlooking the monument. What an unforgettable way to experience the Taj Mahal!
Day 4
Agra to Ranthambhore via Fatehpur Sikri (stay at The Oberoi Vanyavilas, Ranthambhore)
This morning, you have the option of a sunrise return to the Taj Mahal. Or relax and take in the view from the comfort of The Oberoi Amarvilas, instead. Later, you’ll explore the abandoned 15th-century Mughal fort-palace of Fatehpur Sikri before boarding the train to Ranthambhore. When arriving in Ranthambhore this evening, you’ll be met on the platform by a member of our team and accompanied to The Oberoi Vanyavilas. You’ll spend the next two nights here in an opulent Luxury Tent.
Day 5
In Ranthambhore
Enjoy a day of safari in Ranthambhore National Park, on the trail of tiger in your private Jeep. An experienced naturalist will accompany you. Ranthambhore is well known as one of the best spots in the world to view the majestic Bengal Tiger in its natural habitat. Other species to watch out for include; sloth bears, crocodiles, eagles, peacocks, monkeys, deer, leopards, and many exotic birds and plant life. Between safaris, there’ll be a few hours to rest and relax back at the Oberoi – or, if you’re feeling active, climb the 10th-century Ranthambhore Fort.
Day 6
Ranthambhore to Jaipur (stay at The Oberoi Rajvilas, Jaipur)
Today, your luxury Rajasthan tour continues to the Pink City of Jaipur. With no sightseeing planned, it’s completely up to you when we set off. You might prefer a relaxed morning enjoying your Luxury Tent in Ranthambhore, or you may rather have an early start to make an afternoon of it shopping in Jaipur. (Jaipur is well known for its vibrant, block-printed textiles and its semi-precious jewellery. Even the most frugal visitors are likely to pick up a few goodies from the Pink City!). When you arrive in Jaipur, check in to The Oberoi Rajvilas for a two-night stay. Alternatively, those who prefer history and grandeur would be happier at the Taj Rambagh Palace, while the comparably luxurious Rajmahal Palace has a boutique feel.
Day 7
In Jaipur
A full day of guided sightseeing in the Pink City today. You’ll begin at the splendid Amber Fort, later taking in the City Palace and its little-known private rooms, the Jantar Mantar observatory, and the Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds). Optionally, continue to Dera Amer for a memorable evening with elephants. It’s a magical place on the outskirts of the city, where you can spend time up close with elephants by helping to feed and bathe them before taking a gentle walk together through the surrounding forest at sunset (Dera Amer do not encourage rides). If meeting elephants isn’t your thing, this can certainly be removed or replaced. Perhaps with a private cooking class or a special dinner recommendation. Dera Amer is a fantastic and ethical place to do it for those interested in spending time with elephants.
Day 8
Jaipur to Jodhpur (stay at Taj Umaid Bhawan Palace, Jodhpur)
Optionally, with an early start this morning, you’ll head to the markets with your guide to experience the flurry of activity here as the Pink City wakes up. Stops would include the fragrant flower market, the wholesale milk market, the vegetable market, and the Govind Dev Ji temple, finished off with a delicious cup of chai (spiced tea) from a famous but inconspicuous chai shop.
You’ll later be driven to Jodhpur for two nights at the spectacular Taj Umaid Bhawan Palace. Voted by TripAdvisor as their Best Hotel in the World for 2016, the Taj Umaid Bhawan Palace is opulent enough to make even the most discerning of guests nod their approval. Fit for a king, the Maharaja of Jodhpur himself still lives here at the palace and can often be seen walking his dogs on the vast grounds. This evening, enjoy a guided walk through the palace, followed by a glass of sparkling wine at the bar, to imagine you’ve stepped back in time.
Alternatively, stay at the characterful RAAS hotel in Jodhpur – another of our favourites. Those who prefer a central location and immersing themselves in the city will be happier at RAAS. In contrast, those who value history, space and grandeur will prefer the Taj Umaid Bhawan Palace.If you’d like to break up the drive to Jodhpur into two shorter chunks, we recommend a night or two en-route at Dev Shree, Deogarh. This stunning rural retreat is a fabulous place to steer off the beaten track while retaining comfort and style. Another great option is RAAS Chhatra Sagar.
Day 9
In Jodhpur
A guided tour of Jodhpur today takes in Jaswant Thada, Mehrangarh Fort and a walk through the labyrinthine lanes of the old city. This evening, soak up a private Bhopa performance – a rare Rajasthani art form that combines dancing, singing and painting. Afterwards, enjoy a traditional thali dinner (a bit like tapas, a thali presents you with several small plates. It’s a great way to get a taste of Rajasthan and try things you perhaps wouldn’t have otherwise ordered). Our past guests have found this a very culturally rich experience and a highlight of their stay.
Day 10
Jodhpur to Udaipur via Ranakpur (stay at your choice of The Oberoi Udaivilas, Taj Lake Palace, or The Leela Palace, Udaipur)
This morning you’ll continue to Udaipur. Udaipur’s romantic, fairy-tale-like, and easy-going vibe makes it a wonderful place to wind down in at the end of a luxury Rajasthan tour. On the way, we recommend breaking your drive in Ranakpur to explore an exquisite 15th-century Jain temple (with 1,444 uniquely carved pillars, it’s an amazing sight to see and an interesting place to stretch your legs). When arriving in Udaipur later today, the evening is at leisure to relax and enjoy your hotel. There are three fabulous options to choose from; The Oberoi Udaivilas, Taj Lake Palace, and The Leela Palace. We can discuss the option best suited to your taste once you get in touch, or it might be that you’d like to spend a night in each! Day 11
In Udaipur
A guided tour of Udaipur today begins at the magnificent City Palace – this sprawling palace is the largest in Rajasthan. It stands on a ridge overlooking the lake. Cupolas crown its octagonal towers, which are connected by a maze of narrow passageways. The rooms inside the City Palace all contain decorative art: beautiful paintings, colourful enamel, inlay glass-work, and antique furniture. Later continue with a walking tour through the old city, where narrow, winding streets are teeming with shops selling clothing, silver jewellery, and leather-bound journals. Other highlights include the Jagdish Temple, Saheliyon ki Bari (a beautiful rose garden), and the Crystal Gallery.
Day 12
Fly back to Delhi (stay at The Oberoi Gurgaon, Delhi)
The morning is free to relax and enjoy your superb lodgings or explore the easy-going town of Udaipur further at your own pace. This afternoon, you’ll board a flight back to Delhi for an overnight stay at The Oberoi, Gurgaon.
Day 13
Depart from Delhi
Your luxury Rajasthan tour concludes today as you’re chauffeured back to Delhi airport, in time for your onward flight. This additional stop is optional – you might prefer to connect directly from Udaipur. We’ll fine-tune this together to best compliment your international flight arrangements.
Our journeys are inclusive of accommodation with breakfast, a private car with driver throughout, experienced guides, internal flights, entrance tickets and excursions. In other words, we offer a seamless and hassle-free experience where the only thing you need to worry about is soaking up the sights and enjoying your fabulous Oberoi, Leela, and Taj hotels! This indicative cost is per person, based on a couple travelling between October 2022 and March 2023, sharing a double or twin room. The cost would reduce significantly during the low-season months of April to September, while it will be noticeably higher during the peak Christmas and New Year period. We can arrange this itinerary at any time of the year, though it’s best between October and March. Ranthambhore National Park and The Oberoi Vanyavilas close annually from 1st July – 01st September.
