Leh Ladakh Luxury Tour with The Ultimate Travelling Camp

Delhi – Thiksey - Diskit - Delhi

Wondering where to go in India during the summer and monsoon months (May – September)? Our Leh Ladakh Luxury Tour invites you to delve into one of the country’s most beautiful and hidden corners, soaking up spectacular landscapes and spell-binding Buddhist culture. All from the comfort of your nomadic 5-star home, The Ultimate Travelling Camp.

Leh, the capital of Ladakh, is often referred to as ‘Little Tibet’. Nestled between the Kunlun Mountains and the Himalayas, the region is wild and beautiful. Close your eyes and imagine lush green valleys rolling up to jagged mountains, with a backdrop of high snow-capped peaks. Buddhist monasteries, gompas and stupas pepper the landscape, and colourful Buddhist prayer flags flap around every corner. Dreamy Ladakh offers a mesmerising combination of amazing views with rich culture and history. Nothing quite prepares you for the soul-stirring scenery, and it’s impossible not to be moved by the blue lakes, ice-capped mountains and lush valleys.

With a night in Delhi on either side, this luxury tour invites you to unfold the ancient culture of Ladakh, explore her captivating monuments and monasteries and embrace her centuries-old rituals. In 2023, our Leh Ladakh Luxury Tour is operational from 15th May to 10th October.

Ultimate Experiences In Ladakh With The Ultimate Travelling Camp

Day 1
Arrive in Delhi (stay at The Lodhi, Delhi)
Your Leh Ladakh Luxury Tour kicks off on your arrival in Delhi. A member of our team will be waiting to welcome you at the airport and accompany you to The Lodhi for a two-night stay. Previously part of the Aman group, The Lodhi is arguably the finest hotel in New Delhi. It’s nestled in a busy but green area of the capital, close to the Lodhi Gardens of which it takes its name. The atmosphere here is calm and hushed; the décor is sleek and minimal. Rooms are enormous and come with a private plunge pool. Other favourite hotels of ours in Delhi include The Imperial, The Leela Palace, and The Oberoi. We have a range of wonderful properties to recommend, and having tested them all first-hand, we can offer expert advice. We can discuss the options best suited to your taste once you get in touch.

Day 2
Fly to Leh (stay at Chamba Camp, Thiksey)
With an early start, you’ll fly out to Leh, Ladakh. On landing, we’ll chauffeur you to Chamba Camp, Thiksey – one of our top 10 luxury camps in India – to check in for a three-night stay. We recently stayed at Chamba Camp, Thiksey. You may like to read about our stay here.

The rest of the day is at leisure to settle in, soak up the views, and acclimatize. At your convenience, a member of the camp will fine-tune your itinerary and excursions with you to compliment your interests and preferred pace. Your stay includes all meals and activities.

Day 3
Explore the Old City
The morning’s at leisure to enjoy your surroundings. If you’re feeling active (and well acclimatized), you have the option of doing a spot of bird watching with the camp’s resident naturalist. In the afternoon, proceed on a gentle, guided orientation tour around Leh, visiting popular landmarks such as the 17th-century Leh Palace, the Ladakh Arts and Media Organisation Centre, and Munshi House. After special Ladakhi tea, the heritage tour continues through the old city and bazaar on foot, ending with a spectacular view from Shanti Stupa to watch the sunset.

Day 4
Discover Thiksey Monastery
Rise early this morning to explore Thiksey monastery. This stunning monastery houses an impressive two-storey statue of the Maitreya Buddha seated on a lotus and boasts a mesmerizing view of the valley. While at the monastery, you’ll have the privilege of participating in the sunrise prayers. Later today, visit the 11th-century Alchi monastery and 16th-century Basgo Fort, which bears horrific evidence of the invasion of the Mongols. Alternatively, combine your visit to the Alchi monastery with rafting down the River Indus.

Day 5
Continue to Diskit (stay at Chamba Camp, Diskit)
On a scenic drive, today your Leh Ladakh Luxury Tour continues through dramatic landscapes over the Khardung La Pass (considered the highest motorable road in the world) and the famous Nubra dunes. Your final destination is Chamba Camp, Diskit. After having settled in, embark on a visit to the Lamdon Charitable School. Housing 150 students from as far away as the Nubra frontier, meeting and hearing the stories of these little children is an amazing experience.

Day 6
Explore Nubra
With an early start this morning, you’ll explore the Diskit Gompa. Perched on a hill in the village, it’s the oldest and largest Buddhist monastery in the Nubra valley. To end the day, visit the beautiful Hunder dunes at sunset. Camel rides are available at the Hunder dunes, but this can feel like a tourist parade rather than a genuine experience, and the treatment of the animals is questionable. We don’t encourage camel rides here, but the dunes are certainly worth visiting for their beauty. Alternatively, visit Chamba House. An old heritage home that used to belong to a Silk Route era trader, Chamba House is embellished with exotic frescos.

Day 7
Return to Leh (stay at Chamba Camp, Thiksey)
Take it easy this morning to relax at the Diskit camp. If you’re feeling active, we recommend cycling over to the Yak Breeding Centre and Fishery, which are vital units to Nubra, ensuring a continuous supply of animal husbandry, winter after winter. In the afternoon, return to the Thiksey camp in Leh for a two-night stay.

Day 8
At leisure in Leh
Your Leh Ladakh Luxury Tour invites you to take today at leisure. Relax, enjoy the camp’s spa, and explore the local area at your own pace. Alternatively, embark on an optional excursion to Pangong Lake – a popular location for many Bollywood films – to take in stunning lake views amidst a backdrop of the Himalayas.

Day 9
Fly back to Delhi (stay at The Lodhi, Delhi)
This morning, you’ll be chauffeured back to Leh airport to board your return flight to Delhi. On landing in Delhi, a member of our team will accompany you back to The Lodhi for your final overnight stay. Enjoy your private plunge pool this afternoon, or embark on some gentle sightseeing with a guided walk around the Lodhi gardens.

Day 10
Depart from Delhi
You’ll be chauffeured back to the airport this morning in time for your onward flight. This additional stop is optional – you might prefer to connect directly from Leh, particularly if your international departure is scheduled for the afternoon or evening (most flights in and out of Leh operate in the morning). We’ll fine-tune this together to best compliment your wider flight arrangements.
