When paired with our experienced guides, dedicated drivers and seamless service, this luxury sojourn through Rajasthan is a winning combination for the ultimate in Indian indulgence. Still, it’s merely a starting point to share a flavour of the possibilities – we can tweak or completely transform it until we’ve tailor-made your ideal journey.
In celebration of the Taj Umaid Bhawan Palace being voted as the Best Hotel in the World (2016) by TripAdvisor, we’ve collaborated with Taj Hotels to offer the ultimate luxury Indian holiday experience, staying in some of the world’s most legendary palace hotels. Former royal residences, these magical properties are a once in a lifetime experience, evoking all the romance and grandeur of yesteryear.
Day 1
Arrive in Delhi (stay at the Taj Palace Hotel, Delhi)
Your luxury
Rajasthan Tour with Taj Hotels kicks off on your arrival in Delhi. A member of our team will be waiting to welcome you at the airport, and accompany you to the
Taj Palace Hotel. Situated in the capital’s affluent embassy area and surrounded by acres of manicured gardens, the Taj Palace Hotel is an ideal base for exploring the sights of Delhi. Rooms and suites are stately, elegant and tastefully furnished. The hotel prides itself on excellent service and a wide range of amenities; including a swimming pool, putting green, and spa. Take it easy for the rest of the afternoon to relax and recuperate from your international journey.
Depending on how early in the day you arrive, if you’d like to begin exploring this afternoon, you can let us know anytime. Your chauffeur is always on hand, and we’re only a quick call away on your complimentary mobile phone (or WhatsApp, if you prefer).
It’s perhaps the Taj hotels in Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur that are the stars of the show. If the Taj in Delhi isn’t to your liking, other favourites of ours in the capital include The Imperial, The Leela Palace, The Oberoi, and The Lodhi. We can discuss the option best suited to your taste once you get in touch. As specialists in private luxury tours of Rajasthan, and having tested first hand all the properties we recommend, we offer expert advice while listening carefully to your needs and wants.
Day 2
In Delhi
A guided tour of both Old and New Delhi today will introduce you to the Jama Masjid, Qutab Minar, India Gate, Parliament House, Humayun’s Tomb and the Sikh temple.
These sights are purely suggestive, and you’re very welcome to tweak them with us in advance to best suit your interests. Or even on the day itself by discussing with your guide at the time (we’re known for our flexible approach, allowing you complete control over the pace of your trip). After exploring the bustling capital, return to the Taj Palace Hotel in the evening. If you’d like to dine out, we recommend the award-winning
Indian Accent or
Bukhara.
Day 3
Delhi to Agra (stay at the Tajview, Agra)
This morning you’ll proceed to Agra – home of the magnificent Taj Mahal, and the recently renovated
Tajview hotel. After having had the chance to freshen up over lunch, you’ll be met by your guide to explore Agra Fort, followed by the Taj Mahal in its most beautiful light – glowing a warm orange at sunset. Back at the Tajview this evening, your
Junior Suite affords a wonderful view of the monument from your window. Without the restriction of visiting hours, you can catch the Taj Mahal glittering in the moonlight after dark or a peachy pink at dawn.
For an extraordinary experience, we recommend upgrading to the 5* The Oberoi Amarvilas. All rooms and suites at The Oberoi Amarvilas overlook the Taj Mahal. The ones with the balcony are our favourite.Day 4
Agra to Jaipur (stay at the Taj Rambagh Palace, Jaipur)
This morning, you have the option of returning to the Taj Mahal at sunrise if you fancy. Otherwise, why not enjoy the view from the comfort and privacy of your
Junior Suite? Later that morning, we’ll drive you to Jaipur, stopping in Fatehpur Sikri on the way to explore Emperor Akbar’s 16th-century Mughal walled city.
When arriving into Jaipur later today, you’ll check in to the iconic Taj Rambagh Palace for two nights. A former royal residence, this fairy-tale-like palace is impossibly romantic; from the Indian musicians playing on cool verandas to the colourful peacocks strutting across the 47 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens. Affectionately referred to as the ‘Jewel of Jaipur’, the palace boasts some of Rajasthan’s finest rooms and suites, two restaurants, the delightful Polo Bar, and an art-deco style swimming pool. Tucked away in a quiet corner of the gardens is the Jiva Spa tent.
Day 5
In Jaipur
Today you’ll be exploring the best of the Pink City on a guided tour. Jaipur is, for many, quintessential India at its best: expect a cacophony of sights and sounds, from splendid forts and glittering palaces to sauntering camels and brightly painted elephants, twirling moustaches and hot pink saris! Highlights you’ll take in include Amber Fort, the City Palace, Hawa Mahal (aka the Palace of Winds), the Jantar Mantar Observatory, and the Jal Mahal water palace. If your schedule allows, we recommend an extra night in Jaipur to spread out your sightseeing and ensure time to enjoy the lovely Taj Rambagh Palace, as well as to hit the bazaars if you’d like to shop.
Day 6
Jaipur to Jodhpur (stay at Taj Umaid Bhawan Palace, Jodhpur)
Today, your luxury
Rajasthan Tour with Taj Hotels takes you to Jodhpur for a two-night stay at the spectacular
Taj Umaid Bhawan Palace. Recently announced by TripAdvisor as their
Best Hotel in the World, the Taj Umaid Bhawan Palace is opulent enough to make even the most discerning of guests nod their approval. Fit for a king, the Maharaja of Jodhpur himself still lives here at the palace and can often be seen walking his dogs on the vast grounds. This evening, enjoy a guided walk through the palace, followed by a glass of sparkling wine at the bar, to imagine you’ve stepped back in time.
Day 7
In Jodhpur
A guided tour of Jodhpur today takes in Jaswant Thada, Mehrangarh Fort and a walk through the
labyrinthine lanes of the old city. This evening, soak up a private
Bhopa performance – a rare Rajasthani art form which combines dancing, singing and painting. Afterwards, enjoy a traditional
thali dinner (a bit like tapas, a
thali presents you with several small plates. It’s a great way to get a taste of Rajasthan and try things you perhaps wouldn’t have otherwise ordered). Our past guests have found this a very culturally rich experience, and a highlight of their stay.
Day 8
Jodhpur to Udaipur (stay at the Taj Lake Palace, Udaipur)
This morning you’ll continue to the dreamy city of Udaipur. On the way, break your journey in Ranakpur, to explore one of India’s most elaborately carved temples. When arriving in the lake city later today, you’ll take a short boat ride from the shore to reach the iconic
Taj Lake Palace. Originally built in the 17th century as a summer retreat, this dazzling 250-year-old white marble palace appears to float like a mirage in the middle of Lake Pichola.
Day 9
In Udaipur
Today you’ll be accompanied by your guide to explore the city of Udaipur. To begin, a
walking tour through the narrow streets of the old city will take you through winding streets teeming with shops selling clothing, silver jewellery, and leather-bound journals. You’ll shortly approach the City Palace – this sprawling palace is the largest in Rajasthan and stands on a ridge overlooking the lake. Cupolas crown its octagonal towers, which are connected by a maze of narrow passageways. The rooms inside the City Palace all contain decorative art: beautiful paintings, colourful enamel, inlay glass-work, and antique furniture. You’ll also visit the 17th-century Jagdish Temple and Saheliyon-ki-Bari (a beautiful rose garden). Exploring the highlights of Udaipur typically takes a little over half a day. There’ll be time leftover this afternoon to relax back at the Taj Lake Palace.
Day 10
Fly to Mumbai (stay at the Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai)
The morning is yours at leisure to do your own thing. This afternoon, you’ll be chauffeured to Udaipur airport to board a flight down to Mumbai. You’ll spend your last two nights in India at the
Taj Mahal Palace – one of India’s most famous luxury hotels. Built in 1903, this iconic hotel is on the waterfront, nestled in front of the Gateway of India and overlooking the Arabian Sea; the views of and around the hotel are fabulous. During your stay, you can indulge in several excellent restaurants and bars, and a choice of designer shops.
Day 11
In Mumbai
Taking the launch from the Gateway of India, a guided tour of bustling Bombay will today begin at the 8th-century Elephanta caves, home to an 18-foot statue of Lord Shiva. Continue into the afternoon to explore colonial gems such as Victoria Terminus, Flora Fountain, Horniman Circle and the High Court. Pass through the Hanging Gardens and the Jain Temple to end your day at Chowpatty Beach, or take in the buzz and excitement of Chor Bazaar. Alternatively or also, rise early for a guided tour of Mumbai at dawn, exploring the city as it wakes up, in the fragrant flower market and at the bustling newspaper sorters.
We’ll tailor the sights to best suit your interests. For inspiration, we recommend having a read through our guide to spending 72 hours in Mumbai.
Day 12
Depart from Mumbai
Today you’ll be chauffeured back to Mumbai airport in time for your onward flight. If your flight is departing in the evening, you’re very welcome to avail the services of your driver to do a bit of shopping or further sightseeing. Or, if you’d rather skip Mumbai, we can always return to Delhi from Udaipur instead, either for an overnight stay or to connect directly to your onward flight.
