This characterfuljourney kicks off by exploring the bustling capital; from the souk-like bazaars of Old Delhi to the tree-lined colonial avenues of New Delhi. You’d then fly down to Udaipur for a fairy-tale-like stay in an 18th-century fort, followed by a dazzling floating palace in the middle of Lake Pichola (you know the one… the beautiful Taj Lake Palace, one of the world’s most famous luxury hotels, and so dreamy!). After a stop in the delightful village of Narlai, continue to the majestic Blue City of Jodhpur where you can soak up a stunning view of the fort from RAAS; one of our favourite boutique hotels in Rajasthan.
Your boutique sojourn through Rajasthan continues to the remote yet luxurious Mihir Garh, followed by a stay at one of the most quaint and quirky boutique hotels in Rajasthan; Killa Bhawan. Next, two nights in a luxury tent at The Serai will offer an authentic desert experience, before steering off the beaten track to discover the less frequented town of Nagaur, where the charming Ranvas hotel provides an opportunity to stay within the walls of a glorious 12th-century fort. The bejewelled Pink City of Jaipur makes a brilliant ending to our Rajasthan with Boutique Hotels experience. Soak up splendid architecture such as Amber Fort and the Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds), with time to pick up interesting souvenirs in the colourful local markets if you fancy.

Day 1
Arrive in Delhi (stay at The Lodhi, Delhi)
Your journey begins on arrival in Delhi, where you’ll be met by a member of our team and chauffeured to The Lodhi for a two-night stay. Previously part of the Aman group, The Lodhi is arguably the most elegant hotel in New Delhi. It’s tucked away in a busy but green area of the capital, close to the Lodhi Gardens of which it takes its name. The atmosphere here is calm and hushed; the décor is sleek and minimal. Rooms are enormous and come with a private plunge pool. Another of our favourite boutique hotels to consider in Delhi is The Imperial. Depending on how early in the day you arrive, if you’d like to begin exploring this afternoon, you can let us know anytime. Your driver is always available, and we’re only a quick call away on your complimentary mobile phone (or WhatsApp, if you prefer).
Day 2
In Delhi
A guided tour of both Old and New Delhi today will introduce you to the Jama Masjid, Qutab Minar, India Gate, Parliament House, Humayun’s Tomb and the Sikh temple. The itinerary we’ve prepared in advance is a guideline and is completely flexible to your preferences on the day. You may let your guide know your interests, and he will tailor the day to suit better your tastes. We’re known for our flexible approach, allowing you complete control over the pace of your trip. After exploring the bustling capital, you’ll return to The Lodhi in the evening where we recommend dining at their award-winning Indian Accent restaurant. However, your chauffeur is always on hand should you prefer a meal out (Bukhara is a great option).
Day 3
Delhi to Udaipur (stay at RAAS Devigarh, Udaipur)
Fly down to Udaipur in the state of Rajasthan this morning for a night’s stay at RAAS Devigarh. Originally an 18th-century fort, it was recently converted into one of the most splendid boutique hotels in Rajasthan. The property retains many of its original features, and there are countless terraces, balconies, and turrets to tuck yourself away in with a private candle-lit dinner.
Day 4
In Udaipur (stay at the Taj Lake Palace, Udaipur)
Today you’ll explore the highlights of Udaipur’s most romantic city, including the vast City Palace, Jagdish Temple, Saheliyon-ki-Bari and a boat-ride on shimmering Lake Pichola. A walking tour of the Old City will guide you through crooked narrow lanes selling a variety of interesting local handicrafts. It’s here in Udaipur where you’ll start to see the vibrant colours of Rajasthan popping out at you in all directions: think hot pink saris, bright red turbans, swirling moustaches and snooty camels; the very essence of Rajasthan. Spend your second night in Udaipur at the legendary Taj Lake Palace – a 250-year-old dazzling white marble palace. Floating dreamily in the middle of Lake Pichola, it’s perhaps the most famous boutique hotel in Rajasthan (or in India, or even the whole world!). We find that a night at RAAS Devigarh and a night at the Taj Lake Palace pair beautifully together, but of course, if you’d rather avoid that extra check-in and check-out we can discuss spending both nights at the same hotel. Day 5
Udaipur to Narlai, via Ranakpur (stay at Rawla Narlai, Narlai)
Continue to the heart of Rajasthan’s Aravali mountains for a two-night stay in the sleepy village of Narlai. Stop en-route in Ranakpur to visit one of India’s most exquisitely carved temples. Another of our favourite boutique hotels in Rajasthan and originally a royal hunting lodge, Rawla Narlai has held on to many of its original qualities – such as the carved wooden doors, jaalis (stone lattice screens) and sepia portraits. Day 6
In Narlai
The day is yours at leisure to relax and explore the local area at your own pace. Take a dip in the pool, or curl up under a frangipani tree with a good book. If you’re feeling more active, this boutique hotel has many excursions on offer that you can arrange directly. We suggest climbing Elephant Hill (and it’s 576 steps!) for a stunning sunrise, and a walk through the local village guided by Mr Lal is a must. For an exceptional experience, we recommend their Stepwell Dinner. This magical dinner offers four courses of local specialities served beside a 1,100-year-old stepwell, spectacularly lit by hundreds of oil lamps and accompanied by soulful folk songs performed by a local musician on a tambura.
Day 7
Narlai to Jodhpur (stay at Raas, Jodhpur)
Continue to Jodhpur – the Blue City. For the next two nights, you’ll be at RAAS. Nestled at the foot of the mighty Mehrangarh Fort in the heart of Jodhpur’s old city, it’s our favourite place to stay in Jodhpur, and one of our favourite boutique hotels in Rajasthan. Stepping away from the buzz of the old city and walking through RAAS’ stunning gateway is like entering a peaceful oasis. The hotel is a beautiful contrast of old and new; slick décor and modern structures stand side by side with a restored, red sandstone haveli. The view of the fort looming above is spectacular and perhaps one of the best hotel views in Rajasthan.

Day 8
In Jodhpur
A guided tour of Jodhpur today takes in Jaswant Thada, Mehrangarh Fort and a walk through the labyrinthine lanes of the old city. This evening, soak up a private Bhopa performance – a rare Rajasthani art form which combines dancing, singing and painting. Afterwards, enjoy a traditional thali dinner (a bit like tapas, a thali presents you with several small plates. It’s a great way to get a taste of Rajasthan and try things you perhaps wouldn’t have otherwise ordered). Our past guests have found this a very culturally rich experience, and a highlight of their stay.
Day 9
Jodhpur to Rohet (stay at Mihir Garh, Rohet)
Head west into the desert today for an overnight stay at Mihir Garh. A fairy-tale fortress rising from the sands of the Thar, Mihir Garh is a stunning boutique retreat, one of the lesser-known boutique hotels in Rajasthan, blending seamlessly into its surroundings while ensuring guests are supremely comfortable. Each of the nine suites is generously sized and boast a private courtyard or plunge pool – wonderful for soaking up the desert sky.
Day 10
Rohet to Jaisalmer (stay at Killa Bhawan, Jaisalmer)
Head to the golden city of Jaisalmer where you’ll be spending your first night at Killa Bhawan. Set high within the watchtowers of Jaisalmer Fort, the charming Killa Bhawan offers beautiful views of the royal palace and town down below. Each of the five rooms is furnished traditionally, with accents of bright colour, reflecting the local area perfectly. The delightful roof terrace is a highlight and offers sensational views. Being located within Jaisalmer Fort itself, Killa Bhawan is ideal for those who’d like to embrace the rich culture of the city, people-watch and check out the local restaurants. It’s one of the more simple of our favourite boutique hotels in Rajasthan, though what it lacks in facilities it more than makes up for with an unforgettable sense of location.
Day 11
In Jaisalmer (stay at The Serai, Jaisalmer)
This morning you’ll embark on a private guided tour of the enormous Jaisalmer Fort. It rises like a fabulous mirage out of the sands of the Thar Desert, the awesome contours of its 99 bastions softened by the golden hue of the stone. After the fort, Jaisalmer’s havelis (intricately carved houses) are its greatest attraction. Built in the 19th century by the town’s merchants and ministers, these mansions dominate its labyrinthine lanes. The havelis of Salim Singh, Nathmanji and Patwon, are the finest examples of this type of architecture, their golden stone facades so finely carved that they could be lace.
Later, check-in to SUJÁN’s The Serai. An oasis in the desert, The Serai offers a truly luxurious experience in Rajasthan. There are 21 tents, though the word ‘tent’ is a bit of a misnomer; each offers a private veranda, a drawing-room, and an en-suite shower room. Combining locally sourced products, such as traditional dhurries (rugs) and Jaisalmer stone tiling, with state of the art technology, The Serai offers all the facilities one would expect of a luxury hotel while remaining at home in the surroundings. You can read more about The Serai here. Similar to Udaipur, if you’d prefer to base yourself at one hotel in Jaisalmer instead of experiencing two, that can certainly be arranged. Another of our favourite boutique hotels to consider on the fringes of the Thar Desert is Samsara.
Day 12
In Jaisalmer
Relax and unwind with a day of leisure at The Serai today. Lazing by the pool with a good book is heavenly, or why not indulge in a spa treatment? The SUJÁN spa offers a diverse menu of therapies; from reflexology to a relaxing massage. This evening, a private Jeep awaits for a safari through the desert scrub, spotting indigenous wildlife and local shepherds with their herds. Disembarking your Jeep, a camel ride will transport you for the last leg of your journey over to the private dunes, where a butler will be waiting with champagne and canapés whilst you take in the famous desert sunset.
Day 13
Jaisalmer to Nagaur (stay at Ranvas, Nagaur)
Today you’ll proceed to Nagaur for two nights at the charming Ranvas. It’s one of the more unusual boutique hotels in Rajasthan and still very much undiscovered, making it a real hidden gem. This hotel occupied the former women’s quarter of Ahichhatragarh Fort and was once a pleasure palace of the Maharaja of Jodhpur. As all rooms are within the fort walls, a stay at Ranvas evokes the history and pomp of yesteryear.
Day 14
In Nagaur
Enjoy a guided tour of Ahichhatragarh Fort this morning. The fascinating thing about this fort is that unlike the ones you’ll be exploring elsewhere, Ahichhatragarh Fort is still being renovated. Your guide will explain the years of neglect, what they’ve done so far to restore it to its present state, and the methods they used. The afternoon is yours at leisure to relax and enjoy the hotel, else continue to explore the town of Nagaur by tuk-tuk.
Day 15
Nagaur to Jaipur (stay at Samode Haveli, Jaipur)
The last stop on your journey through Rajasthan will be Jaipur – the Pink City. Here, you’ll spend two nights at Samode Haveli. One of our favourite boutique hotels in Rajasthan, this charming haveli exudes local character. And, at over 175 years old, it offers the opportunity to experience one of India’s charming heritage hotels. Samode Haveli is well located too, in the centre of the Pink City. It’s ideal for those who’d like to be in the heart of the action (you may like to read about our recent stay by clicking here).
Day 16
In Jaipur
Today you’ll be exploring the best of the Pink City on a guided tour. Jaipur is, for many, quintessential India at its best: expect a cacophony of sights and sounds, from splendid forts and glittering palaces to sauntering camels and brightly painted elephants, twirling moustaches and hot pink saris! Highlights you’ll take in include Amber Fort, the City Palace, Hawa Mahal (aka the Palace of Winds), the Jantar Mantar Observatory, and the Jal Mahal water palace. If your schedule allows, we recommend an extra night in Jaipur to spread out your sightseeing and ensure time to enjoy your lovely hotel, as well as to hit the bazaars if you’d like to shop.
Day 17
Return to Delhi
Today you’ll return to Delhi airport in time for your onward flight. Depending on the time of your departure, you might need an additional night in Delhi (the perfect excuse to enjoy a return to The Lodhi…!) Alternatively, if you’d like to see the Taj Mahal, a night or two in Agra would slot in comfortably between Jaipur and Delhi.

Our journeys are inclusive of accommodation with breakfast, a private car with driver throughout, experienced guides, internal flights, entrance tickets and excursions. In other words, we offer a seamless and hassle-free experience where the only thing you need to worry about is soaking up the sights and enjoying your fabulous hotels! This indicative cost is per person, based on a couple travelling between October 2022 and March 2023, sharing a double or twin room. The cost would reduce significantly during the low-season months of April to September, while it will be noticeably higher during the peak Christmas and New Year period.
Our suggested Rajasthan with Boutique Hotels itinerary has been designed purely for your inspiration. We can make any number of tweaks and adjustments to suit your taste better. For example, if you’d like to include a visit to the Taj Mahal, this can easily be slotted in between Jaipur and Delhi. If you’re interested in wildlife, we could add a two-night stay at Ranthambhore National Park to spot Bengal tigers in the wild.
