As far as shopping is concerned, Jaipur has something for everyone. From elegant silk saris to kitschy wooden camels, even the most thrifty visitor is likely to leave the Pink City with some treasures tucked in their suitcase! As experts in tailor-made tours of the Rajasthan region, here’s co-founder Madeleine‘s guide to luxury shopping in Jaipur.

“Rajasthan is well-known for its crafts, and each area has its own distinct forte. Jaipur is at the hub of the state’s tourism industry and has handicrafts from across the region but is most famous for its jewellery; if you’re seeking something with local flair, pick up a pair of emerald earrings or a piece of blue pottery.

While luxury shopping in Jaipur, I recommend browsing Carpet & Textile House for – as the name suggests – carpets and textiles! This inconspicuous and unassuming warehouse is a real treasure trove, and they’ve had the pleasure of welcoming many a famous face through the doors (including most recently, Hilary Clinton). Their carpets are top quality, and our long-standing relationship with the boutique ensures you’re delivered only the best. A traditional hand-woven carpet from Jaipur would be a stunning reminder of your time in Rajasthan to take back home.

Narain Niwas Palace is worth visiting for a collection of boutiques: discover jewel-coloured, Indian-inspired homewares, clothing and accessories at vibrant concept store Hot Pink. A soft pashmina from Andraab is as stylish as it is cosy, while Aashka excels in breezy, block-printed cottons in wearable designs. If visiting Narain Niwas Palace you can pop into Caffé Palladio for refreshments, or Bar Palladio for a post-shopping cocktail.

Fab India is good too and comprises the majority of my wardrobe! But you can find Fab India outlets in most major cities, including Delhi and Agra.

For a traditional market experience, Bapu Bazaar is a buzzing hub lined with shops selling a rainbow of vibrant textiles, bedsheets, saris, slippers and other trinkets. While you’re not likely to find top-quality lasting treasures here, Bapu Bazaar is brilliant for easy gifts and souvenirs. Bargaining is generally de rigeur.

Whilst Bapu Bazaar is overflowing with fabrics, Johari Bazaar is the locals’ jewellery hotspot. Reams of stalls glitter with gold, silver and semi-precious stones, and workshops encourage visitors to take a peek at the artisans in action. It can be tempting to stock up on jewels at ridiculously low prices at Johari Bazaar, but practice caution: there’s lots of coloured glass pretending to be baguettes and cabochons. For the real deal, Gem Palace, Silver Arts and Amrapali sell guaranteed authentic designs”.
